Two summer programs provide playing opportunities for those seeking recreational baseball and for those seeking a more competitive, travel team experience. Pickup Baseball is available to all comers. Competitive Tournament Baseball teams hold tryouts and cannot always provide playing opportunities for all players.
For players ages 9-19. BYB participates in the Baystate Baseball Tournament of Champions and theLou Tompkins All Star Baseball League. These are very competitive, inter-town baseball programs we recommend only for the most dedicated and skillful players. Teams play three games per week and hold a regular practice each week. The season runs from late June through early August. Tryouts are held in mid-May.
Participation in summer baseball requires a significant commitment to the team in terms of time and travel. Players must be available for games on at least one day each weekend. For away games on weeknights, players must be available to arrive at 5:00 p.m. in towns throughout the Greater Boston area and surrounding suburbs. Although coaches may excuse a limited number of planned absences, players (and their families) are otherwise expected to honor their commitments to summer teams.
This program is designed to give all members of the BYB playing community an opportunity to play over the summer months. The program is designed as a low-key option for those unable to commit to summer tournament baseball and ranges in ages from 7 to 15 with coaches pitching. There is no cost and players can come when they wish and need not make a commitment to play all summer. The program runs two days a week from the end of June through August (fields to be determined). Teams will be chosen on each night to keep things balanced and depending on who arrives to play. As summer approaches check the web site for updated information about specific days, times and fields to be used each year.
